Loop Defense
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux
This game was originally made in 96 hours (some of which I had to spend at my day job) for the GMTK 2025 Game Jam with the theme "Loop". That version can be downloaded as "Jam version".
Summary
Defend your base by first controlling a drone (signified by an "antenna" in the jam version, by being green with concentric circles around in newer versions) until either it runs out of battery, you fly back to base manually or you cancel control with space (Xbox A / Nintendo B / Sony Cross) which will also spawn a new drone, when you have one in stock.
After the drone returns to base it will continue looping the path you've set for it.
You need to plan your path so you can defend against the enemies. They will spawn somewhat randomly, but when one is killed it will soon return on the same path as before.
Controls
Move controlled drone | WASD / arrow keys | left stick |
Request new drone / Send current back to base | Space | Sony X / XBox A / Nintendo B |
Versions / Updates
Jam Version
This is the build I submitted to the Jam.
"Jam Deluxe" version
After the jam I continued working with the same focus as during the jam, for about as many hours as I "lost" to my day job during the jam.
This version has:
- Clearer visuals for which drone you are controlling
(i made it harder to see with an last minute update of the overall visuals right before the deadline) - An upgrade system where you can upgrade your base and future drones after killing an (increasing) number of enemies
Stuff that didn't make it in time
AKA Stuff you shouldn't expect from this build.
- UI for selecting a defender to see it's stats and visualise it's path
Upgrades- Enemies getting tougher
- Enemy variety
- Better visuals
- Smaller filesize by using compressed audio for the music
- Balancing - but that would require testing by someone else than me, so please share your experiences
Current plans post jam
"Jam Deluxe" version- Refactoring
My pride as a (senior) software dev makes me want to fix up the pile of spaghetti I have produced, which most likely will include unit testing and fixing bugs - ????
- Profit
(nah, most likely not)
Credits for used assets
- All graphics (obviously?) done by me.
- Sounds and music licensed from OvaniSound (I might have bought a humble bundle some while ago and can't let that be wasted :D )

Install instructions
Unzip and run executable.
I'm sorry you have to do this instead of playing in browser. I blame Microsoft for not providing promised tech for .NET (but really, I should've checked beforehand so mea culpa).
Also sorry for the big files, several tracks of uncompressed music will do that... Besides .NET making it bloated from the start.
